Kubernetes scheduler scoring

Measuring a scheduler without paying for a cluster: LeastAllocated vs MostAllocated on simulated nodes.

Kubernetes · KWOK · scheduler scoring · 2025 · short entry

Kubernetes, KWOK · 2025 · academic

An empirical comparison of two Kubernetes scheduler scoring strategies — LeastAllocated, which spreads pods across the cluster, and MostAllocated, which consolidates them onto fewer nodes — measured for their effect on CPU and memory utilization, fragmentation, and idle-node behavior. The scheduler under test is real; the cluster is simulated with KWOK (Kubernetes Without Kubelet), which makes running a meaningful node-count comparison affordable without provisioning real machines for every configuration.

This was completed as academic coursework. A full write-up isn't here yet — this entry will grow into one.
